The report showed Minnesota had 541,202 boats registered with the department of Natural Resources in 1978. California had 548,800 licensed boats. A total of 8,034,905 bdats were registered in the U.S. during 1978. ' Other states with large numbers of boats registered are Texas, Michigan, Floridfi, and Wisconsin. Minnesota continues to lead the r)ation in number of boats per capita with an average of abe boat for every 7.4 persons. Kim Elverum, DNR boat and water safety coordinator, said that despite the large number of boats in Minnesota, the state has a low boating accident rate. He said Min- is the largest?
