Ely Echo EI, Mn 0ct 97:, FIlIST BIIVI'IIDAY F()B TIlE ELY E('ilO Our child is one-year old now, I've watched it open its eyes, stretch its arms and awaken to tile newness surrounding it. Our chikt knows not one mother or father.]or our child is adopted, And ilseare has been lovingly, altended to by a group of people known as the "Ely Echo Staff". Each day they dress their child in color and print ; Ior once a week, the Public will see her. Sometimes they will feel happiness, sometimes anger, other times fear. But regardless of what they see in her. one thing remains for all to see: Truth, E×pression, Opinion and the right for all to be seen and heard. I wish to lake this oppartunity to express my total and sincere appreciation to every mernber of my Staff, whose unfaltering faith in out Newspaper has guided inlelligently and faithfully the growth of the Ely Echo. Ron, took a job with the EPA as supervisor ot the terliary treatmenl plant. AI first 1 knew rio one, not even wives ol other EPA employees. I thought Ely was a ver) unfriendly town. Then 1 saw one of tile signs put up by the Ely Newcomers (,lub and 1 deeided Io go lo one of their meetings just to see what they were like. It turned out to be a good decision and afler thai I looked forward to the meelings. Through Newcomers I made nlany friends, some of whom 1'tl never forgel. Also I ew,ntually made fl'iends oulside tile club. If any new wonlen in Ely read this--don't be hesitant aboul if-go to Newcomers. It is both helpful and rewarding.
